My thought reminds me about a great “Welcome speech “ heard through a recorded cassette during our Inter collegiate athletic meet conducted at Engg college grounds in the year 1983. It was conducted in a big way and was a huge success. (Just an year ago, The Asian athletic meet -Asiad 82 was held at New Delhi. Smt. Indira Gandhi, the prime minister then, entrusted a phenomenal person to deliver the welcome speech. It was none other than the Big B, Sri. Amithab Bachan. Amithab welcomed the gathering with his unique, very special voice, which mesmerized the entire spectators.) And during our athletic meet, we played some portion of his speech to the spectators. And I still remember Bachan’s high based voice which concluded like- “ Welcome to Asiad, Welcome to India, welcome to this wonderful land , Welcome to this wonderful land of ours” ( An Indian would definitely have pride to hear his speech).
